Hi, It's Kimberly from Sweet Red Poppy. I'm so excited to be sharing some Spring sewing inspiration with you today! I fell in love with this Michael Miller Sommer fabric collection the minute it released and I'm thrilled with how these outfits turned out.
SOMMER, the Scandinavian word for Summer, is a collection of designs inspired by fabric designer Sarah Jane's Scandinavian heritage.
In this sweet collection of fabric, you'll find bicycles, blooming tulips, adorable bunnies, swans, and children flying kites. It's the perfect collection of fabric to welcome the warmer months of Spring.
Here's a list of the fabric's I used for my children's Spring outfits this year:
I chose to sew the dresses for my girls with a combination of the gingham and garden bloom prints. The hand painted gingham is brimming with character and practically begs to be sewn into a dress!
My girls fell in love with the Garden Bloom print which features tulips, bunnies and birds. I combined a dark and a light print to really give each dress a pop of color.
I used the Olive Ann Penelope Dress Pattern for my girl's dresses.
This sweet little pattern features a scooped back, a beautiful bow, ruffled neckline and a shaped skirt. It even comes with a matching doll pattern!
The only changes I made to the pattern was to omit the pockets ( I felt like it would take away from the print) and to lessen the seam allowance of the bias tape making it a bit smaller.
I sewed a size 2 with a shortened skirt and a size 3 with a size 4 skirt.
Isn't that scooped back just the sweetest?
For my son, I used McCall's Tie, Vest, Shirt & Shorts Pattern The tie is incredibly easy to sew and has a Velcro closure for safety.
I hope you enjoyed this Spring sewing inspiration. Happy Sewing!
