Cloud9 Fabrics uses only 100% GOTS certified organic cotton in the manufacturing of our base cloths and low impact dyes for printing and dying. We work closely with mills that are committed to ethical and responsible conduct. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. It is the most comprehensive organic certification available and it covers the entire production process from seed through to the final product.
GOTS requires that textile manufacturers follow very specific environmental criteria and social criteria. For example, there can be no use of genetically modified seeds, chemical fertilizers, and chemical pesticides in the farming process. At the mill there must be designated machinery only to be used for organic cotton fibers, so as to not cross contaminate with conventionally farmed cotton.
There can be no use of chemicals which have been shown to harm humans or the environment at any stage of the production process, which includes the printing and finishing stages. Also, worker safety and worker rights issues are a top priority, no child or slave labor, and a certain minimal level of safe working conditions must be met. To carry the GOTS label "organic" a textile must contain at least 95% certified organic fibers (ours are 100%).
Along with performing annual in person inspections at each of our production facilities, we also receive GOTS certification for every collection we produce in order to provide our customers and the end consumer with the utmost confidence that we make sustainability and social compliance one of our highest priorities.
