About Flower Market
Flower Market is an organic quilting cotton collection from Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, the sisters behind the lifestyle company A Beautiful Mess. The collection is inspired by their love of flowers, vintage, and the 1970s. The designs feature whimsical warm tones in classic patterns anyone can love including florals, stripes, and polka dots. Flower Market is the perfect collection to add some vintage flare to your next sewing project.
When did you realize you had a passion for art and design?
Our mom went to school to teach art, but then she had me right as she graduated college. She did eventually teach art in a classroom, but while we were little she did projects with us all the time. Art was a huge part of our childhood. She taught me to make my own fabrics in high school with wax sticks and dye. So I feel like our whole lives we've been very into art- thank you mom!
Describe your aesthetic in 3 words.
Vintage-inspired, cozy, warm.
What was the inspiration behind your latest fabric release?
Our collection was inspired by our love for vintage floral prints. We both collect and wear vintage. One of our first businesses was a vintage shop when we were younger. So we've always been inspired by the sixties and seventies and it really came out through this collection.
You teamed up with PBS Fabrics to create your line of textiles. What about them made the perfect partner for you?
We loved working with PBS. They helped us to create a more balanced collection and we were so happy they were into the idea of doing an organic collection!
If you had to choose one favorite fabric from your entire line, what would it be and why?
Definitely this large floral print, but I want to pick the rainbow stripes too!

What are your current favorite trends in sewing?
We love how there is a resurgence in sewing for your own clothing as well as quilting. We love seeing people use our patterns to make clothing and quilts the most!
What do you love most about creating a DIY project with your fabric (or seeing customers creating DIY projects with your fabric)?
I'm a new mom (Elsie) so I'm pretty inspired by outfits for my little people right now.
What other blogs/brands/designers inspire you most?
We love @elisejoy she sews a lot of her own clothing and is so inspiring to us!
What do you love to do when you aren’t designing and creating?Painting and we both love baking!
Tell us one thing people might not know about you.
LOL after blogging for 12 years it's hard to think of something people don't know. We're both pretty opinionated and we disagree a lot, but we rarely have a big fight these days. Micro-fights only.
