A fitted crib sheet is a fun and easy way to personalize any nursery! Today we'll show you how to create a crib sheet in a few simple steps.
Quilting cotton fabric is perfect for fitted crib sheets! There are endless prints to choose from, it is 100% cotton and the manufacturer’s width of 44” makes for quick and easy cutting.
Let's get started!
- 2 yards of 44” wide cotton fabric for a standard crib mattress (52.5” x 27.5” x 5.5”). We used Art Gallery Littlest Floral Frolic Apricot Fabric. Art Gallery cotton fabrics are especially great for sheeting, since they have a higher thread count.
- 74” piece of ¼” knit elastic.
Cut fabric so that the length measures 69 5/8”. Quilting cotton fabric should already be 44” wide, so no cutting required for the width! Do not cut off the selvedges.
Fold each corner and sew 9” in from each angle to create corner seams. Finishing the seams is imperative since this will get washed many times.
On a strip of ¼” elastic: mark measurements for 8 ½”, 29”, 45” and 65 ½” – these will be the points attached to each corner for even spacing.
After you’ve made the markings, join the elastic ends together with a 1” overlap to create an elastic circle.
Pin the elastic to each point and any other additional points needed to secure. Roll hem the fabric with the elastic inside and topstitch with a wide zig zag stitch.
