Supplies
- 1 yard exterior fabric (we used Kaufman Essex Linen Blend Natural)
- 1 yard contrast fabric for pocket and lining (we used Stof France Cactus)
- Thread
- Marking Pen
- Batting
- General sewing/quilting Supplies
Step 1: Measuring your Laptop
Measure your laptop’s height, width, and depth, rounding up to the nearest ¼’
Step 2: Formulas & Cutting
Now that you have measurements, you can calculate the dimensions of your pieces.
Cut 2 exterior pieces
(Laptop width + Laptop Depth + 1.25”) x (Laptop height + Laptop Depth + 1.25”)
Cut 2 Pocket Pieces
( Laptop Width + Laptop Depth + 1.25”) x (Laptop height/2 +1.25”)
Cut 2 Lining Pieces
( Laptop width + Laptop depth + 1.25”) x (Laptop height + laptop depth + 1.75”)
Props needed: 1 lining piece
Step 3: Preparing Pieces
Place pocket pieces right sides together, sew ¼” from top long edge. Turn right side out and press. Toptitch the top of the pocket. Mark a line down the center of the pocket piece with marking pen.
Place batting on the wrong sides of the exterior pieces. Quilt these as desired, we quilted them in horizontal lines about 2” apart. No backing is required for this since the batting will face the wrong side of the lining when complete. Trim any excess batting from the exterior pieces.
Place pocket at the bottom of one exterior piece, matching sides and corners. Topstitch the pocket on the exterior piece along the center line marked previously on the pocket piece.
Step 4: Assembling
Sew the exterior pieces together, leaving the top side open.
Sew the lining pieces together, leaving the top side open. Leave a gap on the bottom edge for turning later.
Tip - Don’t forget to clip corners!
Step 5: Finishing
Nest the completed exterior pieces inside of the completed lining pieces, right sides together. Sew along the top edge. Turn right side out using the hole in the lining. Finish the hole in the lining at this time. Topstitch around the top.
