Hooray for Friday and Week 3 of the Fabric.com Log Cabin Sew-Along!
A couple of weeks ago, we talked about choosing fabrics for our plaid flannel quilt-as-you-go blanket, and last week we went over the cutting instructions and a quick tutorial on the quilt-as-you-go method. So this week, hopefully you were off and running with your log cabin blocks!
I was able to get a few blocks quilted this week. I love seeing that stack of finished blocks growing!
I love all the texture on these quilt blocks, thanks to the soft flannel fabric and the matchstick quilting.
I couldn’t help but start playing around with the possible layout for my blocks as soon as I had finished a couple of blocks in each color. There are several different ways to orient your log cabin blocks:
I’m not sure which layout I’ll choose just yet! Which one is your favorite?
I was also impatient to see how the dotted chambray was going to look as the sashing, so I laid a strip of sashing between a couple of blocks to try it out.
I love it! And now I really can’t wait to start joining my blocks together.
Next week on the sew-along, I’ll show you one way to join your quilted blocks using sashing strips. I think you’ll be happy to see how easy it is to join pre-quilted blocks using this method!
We would love to see your quilt-as-you-go projects! Be sure to post your progress on Instagram (#fabriclogcabinsewalong) and Facebook, and we may feature your in-progress quilt on the blog!
See you next week!
