Create a modern crosses quilt featuring trendy plus sign designs that can be used for top of bed quilts, baby blankets and so much more with this quick and easy tutorial!
This project is perfect for beginners. It's great for combining solid fabrics with a fun print for the backing and binding, or you can even use a print for the crosses for a bolder look! This tutorial uses 5” finished squares for a crib sized quilt, but you'll want to use larger finished squares and rectangles for larger sizes.
Let's get started!
For the Quilt Top:
- 1 ½ yards of neutral Kona Cotton fabric for the background (we used Kona Cotton White)
- 1 1/8 yards of contrasting Kona Cotton fabric for the crosses (we used Navy, Silver and Iron Grey)
For the Rest of the Quilt
- ½ yard quilting fabric for binding
- 3 yards of solid or patterned quilting fabric for backing
- Coordinating Thread
From your background (white) fabric, cut (9) 5.5” strips by WOF (Width of Fabric).
From your contrasting (grey) fabric cut (7) 5.5” strips.
Subcut the white fabric into (36) 5.5” squares and (7) 15.5” rectangles.
Subcut the grey fabric into (24) 5.5” squares and (8) 15.5” rectangles.
Following the diagram below, piece your squares and rectangles into horizontal rows as shown.
Piece rows together, matching seams as you go.
Baste and quilt as desired. We used diagonal rows, using the corners of the squares and rectangles as a guide. Straight line quilting or stippling would also look great.
Enjoy your easy and trendy quilt!
