Hey there! I am Whitney, founder of Juniper Dress Co. I love making hair accessories and custom clothing. I am a big fan of bright colors, funky patterns, and anything floral. I love making accessories and clothing that are as unique as my clients. Whether it is a hair scarf or custom dress I believe that the right clothing can elevate your everyday look and make you feel special.
When did you realize you wanted to start a business?
I realized I wanted to start a business when my closet couldn’t hold any more clothes because I was sewing so much! I knew I wanted to keep designing and creating so I thought about sewing for clients. My co-workers kept asking where I purchased my clothes and were always impressed when I told them I had made them. That was when I knew it was time to start selling my own designs.
What was the inspiration behind your products?
I was inspired to make custom clothing while teaching second grade at an orthodox Jewish school in Los Angeles. The school’s dress code made it hard to wear clothing from most stores so I went to the fashion district, bought some fabric, and made my own skirts and dresses. I was inspired to start making hair accessories because I wanted to make unique, handmade fashion items at a more accessible price point.
If you had to choose one favorite product from your entire line, what would it be and why?
My favorite product is the Black and White Polka Dot Hair Scarf. I love this scarf because the pebble crepe is such a beautiful fabric and the scarf is extremely versatile. Not only does the color go with everything but there are so many different ways to wear it. I like to tie mine around my ponytail and wear it as a headband.

Why do you love working with Fabric.com?
There are three main reasons I love working with Fabric.com:
- Their selection is incredible! There are so many options when it comes to fibers, colors, and patterns.
- I also love how reasonable the prices are. You can find beautiful high quality fabrics for a fraction of the cost of major retailers.
- The last reason is that they offer free shipping on orders over a certain amount. As a small business owner who orders fabric regularly that is such a nice perk!
What is the most unexpected way you’ve worked with fabric?
I recently had my first baby and I used some spandex fabric to make a pumping bra!
What piece of advice do you wish you had before starting your business?
In the past few months I have started listening to Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger Podcast. She talks a lot about having a mindset of abundance. That basically means believing that there is enough success, growth, and happiness for everyone. Just because someone else is successful doesn’t mean there is any less success for you.
How do you market your business? What has been the most impactful marketing tool you’ve used and why?
I love to use social media to market my business. I also love to do local craft fairs and handmade markets because I get to meet my customers in person. I think that connecting with people face to face is the best way to market your business!
