I MADE A WOOL COAT! That’s something I never thought I would say. Sewing a wool coat was so daunting! It seemed like something only professionals could do.

I shared my fabric.com fall/winter fabric haul a few days ago and it included this glorious cashmere wool! I already knew exactly how I wanted it but I needed to find a pattern. While I was out and about thrifting in Nashville, I found her. Vogue7806. I couldn’t believe it. The exact coat I had in mind and the pattern was dropped in my lap.

Once I started cutting, it got less scary. Little by little and very carefully, I started to piece her together. I’m usually a fast sewist but I slowed myself down and really took my time. It turns out, wool isn’t hard to work with at all. I self-drafted the belt because I always have to add my own little detail.
I had so much fun sewing my wool coat and I love how it turned out!
Here’s what you’ll need to create yours:
- 4 yards of Fancy Wool Cashmere Blend or any other Wool fabric (I used the Fancy Wool Cashmere Blend Camel)
- Scissors

- Pattern: Vogue 7806

Let's get started!
Step 1: Sew the collar

Step 2:Sew the bodice

Step 3: Sew the pockets

Step 4: Sew the sleeves

Step 5: Sew the belt

Enjoy, and stay cozy! Check out this Fabric Haul for more fabrics for your Fall and Winter sewing plans:
