This is a lovely lace. The pattern is rather random-looking, almost like cobwebs. The strands that make up the lace are moderately heavy, but the pattern itself is rather small, which is why I bought it---to use as a lace overlay on a doll's Steampunk ballgown. It's hard to find lace with a small enough pattern to use for doll clothes, so I was thrilled to get this. The color matched my other fabrics perfectly, too. However. . . .
I pre-washed it by hand, per the directions, in my bathroom sink, and then I laid it flat to air dry. When it was dry, I discovered that it was falling apart! All along the selvage, there are large holes where the lace is disintegrating. (See attached photo.) The center seems stronger, but there are little frayed bits throughout the lace, where it's obviously weakened. Because of this, I'm concerned that the rest of the lace may fall apart when I sew with it. As it is, I'll have to be very careful when I lay out my pattern, to be sure I don't cut near the holes.
I was disappointed, since I do love this lace. It's very pretty, especially if you're going for a punk, grunge, edgy, or even a Steampunk look. I'll try to incorporate it into my doll project despite the holes, but it's possible it won't be strong enough to use without falling apart. Buyer beware! Lovely, but not strong enough to withstand HAND washing!

This lace is gorgeous- it's sturdy and has the coolest texture. Every time I make something it sells out immediately.
