Worst yarn I have ever bought, online, based solely on website description of the product. I am bedridden and recently took up crochet again to have SOMETHING to do that doesn't make e me sicker. Motifs were discovered, online, and I was over joyed to have something easier to wrangle than afghans. Theyre just too heavy. I cannot shop in stores physically and funds are extremely limited. I only remember Red Heart brand from my teenage crocheting years decades ago, so thought I could trust it to be what I remembered. I had been using a site that I bought my first yarns online from, Premier Ever Soft, and Caron Simply Soft. The Premier is the softest thing I have ever touched! Buy it comes in a smaller yardage so when I finished my hexagon shawl (I live it and get lots of compliments on the color choices.. That's the BIG thing about Premiere Ever Soft.. In real lighting, their colorways work well together in creating an ombre effect to die for in pinks, purples, country blues, and teals. No other acrylic yarn I've tried can best Premier Ever Soft in those colorways. Also, turquoise, the bright green, and lavender cannot be beat. I dare you to try it. Anyway, Red Heart Super Saver was onsale online come The cyber Monday Sales after Christmas. The colors looked great, the yardage was gigantic to my brain, and the price was too good to be true. I read description of the yarn, the reviews and they GLOWED! So I Sank every penny of my Christmas presents in Red Heart Super Saver. When the gigantic boxes arrived I opened the first like a kid with a present! Reached in for a pretty skein, picked it up and dropped it immediately. It was so stiff, and scratchy. It was like touching an S. O. S. pad to scrub a pot with.! I thought it was just me so I told my daughter my yarn had arrived, come look! She excitedly grabbed a purple one and had the same reaction I had had. This scenario repeated itself with every person that touched it in excitement.
I made two shawls with it (I had way to return these boxes and no more money, so had to use it) and they are stiff as a board. There is NO drape and they scratch and abrade my skin wherever it is exposed. I can't even wrap up cozy in them. They just look, well, heavily starched. A pity. The colors in this yarn are stellar! They have blues and purokes to DIE for (oh my eord, that suede blue! Or blue suede.. It looks like velvet! Spring Green, the pumpkin (I think), Turqua and most of the purples look exquisite, feel like purgatory. Never will I buy this again. I cannot pound snd knead it with fabric softener ir hair conditioner, I am too ill. And, if you do a google search on how to soften Red Heart Super Saver, tons of results pop up, from others asking the same question. It's NOT just me being picky. Try it in a store, or make something to wear with a skein before you spend all your yarn money on this product. Only you can decide if its going to work for you, or if it's just too icky feeling and stiff to work with. It should be mentioned in website yarn sales descriptions. I gave two giant boxes away. For free. I didnt even finish or work the tails in on what was going to be my pretty black granny triangle shawl. Its too hideous to touch again.
