Cosmetic Pouch

Anyone with basic sewing skills can make this adorable cosmetic pouch!

Supplies:

  • • Sewing Machine
  • • Zipper foot
  • • Two coordinating fabrics (We used these!)
  • All-Purpose Zipper (10” or longer)
  • • Coordinating all-purpose thread
  • Interfacing
  • Optional:

  • • Rotary Cutter
  • • Ruler or seam Gauge
  • • Marking tool
  • • Cutting mat
  • • 6.5”x24” acrylic ruler

Step 1:

Cosmetic bag

Cut 2 10”x10” squares out of each fabric. You will have 4 total, 2 for the outside and 2 for the inside. Cut 4 10x10 squares out of interfacing. Apply interfacing according to directions to each piece.

Step 2:

Cut two 2”x2” squares out of the bottom corners of each piece of Fabric

Step 3:

Attach zipper. Take one outside piece of fabric (the pink floral one in our photos) and put the top edge against one edge of the zipper, right side down. With your zipper foot in place, sew the fabric to the zipper tape with the zipper foot flush against the zipper teeth. Repeat with the other side.

For the lining fabric, repeat the same steps but on the wrong side of the zipper. The right side of the lining fabric will face the wrong side of the zipper tape.

You now have all of the fabric pieces attached to the zipper.

Step 4:

Top stitch from the right side on either side of zippers.

Step 5:

Arrange your pieces so that your main fabric pieces are right sides together and your lining pieces are right sides together, with the zipper flat in the middle.

Step 6:

Open the zipper half-way. Using a ¼” seam allowance, sew around the sides of the pouch, leaving an opening at the bottom of the lining pieces. Ignore the cut out squares for now.

Step 7:

Box the corners by opening the cut outs and centering the seams in the middle so the lines match and sew using a ¼” seam allowance.

Step 8:

Using the opening you left in the lining, turn the bag right-side out. Your bag is now mostly complete.

Step 9:

Stitch up the opening in the lining by hand or by machine and enjoy your cute new cosmetic bag!
