Makers Spotlight: Tammy
As a teenager, my mother taught me how to sew, but it wasn’t until my late forties—when I taught myself how to piece—that I actually got into sewing. As someone who is still learning the art of sewing, I would suggest newer sewists do whatever they want—don’t be afraid to break the rules! Contrary to what you read, anything can be art.
As an architect, I pull inspiration from architecture and history to create my art. When trying to decide what to make next, I will also sometimes use a piece of fabric as inspiration. Sometimes requests from friends or even things I envision while I’m sleeping help steer the direction of my project as well. I love using Minky Cuddle fabric and batiks to bring my projects to life, which, of course, I couldn’t do without my sewing machine!
